Where did Indianapolis Colts’ running back Jonathan Taylor end up in Pro Football Focus’ 2025 rankings of the top 32 players at this position group?
Trevor Sikkema has been going through each position and ranking the top 32 players ahead of the upcoming season. At running back, Taylor came in at No. 14 on the list, one spot behind rookie Ashton Jeanty.

“Taylor has the volume stats, with more than 6,000 rushing yards over the past five years,” wrote Sikkema. “But he also owns just a 74.4 cumulative PFF rushing grade across the past three seasons. He recorded the lowest PFF rushing grade of his career in 2024 (64.1).”
After appearing in 21 total games between the 2022 and 2023 seasons, Taylor played in 14 of the 17 games last season, putting together a very productive year.
Taylor ended up rushing for 1,431 yards, which was the fourth-most in football. Among all running backs, Taylor ranked 13th in yards per rush, ninth in touchdowns, 10th in yards after contact, and seventh in rushes of 10-plus yards, according to PFF.
To me, this ranking feels a bit low, given Taylor’s steady production when he’s been on the field and the big numbers he’s posted in his career.

As Sikkema points out, volume-wise, Taylor is going to stand out, but in some of PFF’s efficiency metrics, he doesn’t rank as highly. However, at the end of the day, production is production, whether a back does it on 15 carries in a game or 23, and Taylor has regularly put up numbers throughout his career.
There’s also something to be said for opponents knowing that he’s going to be getting the ball and still struggling to contain him. Taylor is often what has made this Colts‘ offense go as they’ve searched for consistency at quarterback.
