Odisha to ‘seek patents for terms like Srimandir, Jagannath Dham, Mahaprasad’

Puri Srimandir Management Committee on Monday took a decisive step towards preserving the sanctity of terms related to the temple.

The committee, in its latest meeting, approved a proposal to pursue patent applications for expressions such as ‘Srimandir’, ‘Jagannath Dham’, and ‘Mahaprasad’.

Shree Jagannath Temple Administration (SJTA) Chief Administrator Arabinda Padhee affirmed that words linked to Lord Jagannath’s various rituals should not be utilised for other purposes, prompting the proposal’s ratification.

No high-rise in the temple vicinity

A rising concern over the construction of high-rise buildings around Srimandir has also been addressed by the committee. The visual sanctity and the prominence of the temple are under threat from these towering structures. Consequently, the committee plans to engage with the Urban Development Department to propose specific construction guidelines to protect the site’s cultural and religious heritage.

The need for government intervention to oversee the expansion of buildings around Srimandir and Gundicha Temple has been highlighted. As part of these measures, the committee resolved to advance a framework regulating the height of new developments around the temple premises.
