The Tennessee Titans made a big addition to their defense in Round 2 of the 2024 NFL draft when they selected Texas defensive tackle T’Vondre Sweat.
It was thought Sweat’s stock would take a hit after his arrest for suspicion of DWI earlier this month. However, general manager Ran Carthon said he didn’t remove Sweat from his board after meeting with the 22-year-old following the arrest, and ultimately he decided to take him in Round 2.
Putting that issue and the concern over his ability to stay in shape aside, the move will give Tennessee a huge lift upfront, assuming it pans out.
Sweat is a major difference-maker in the run game and is a plus pass-rusher for someone his size. Together with Jeffery Simmons, the Titans’ defensive line could be a big problem for opposing offenses in 2024 and beyond.
Here’s what scouting reports said about Sweat ahead of the draft.

Sweat is a throwback defender who can absorb multiple blockers and free up teammates for 1-on-1 situations elsewhere, and he’s got enough athleticism to create some big plays against both the run and pass. As long as he’s put into a situation where he can do what he does best, and he’s not asked to be a player he’s not, Sweat can be the cornerstone of a dominant defensive front who sets the tone against the run, and puts opposing offenses in frequent third-and-long situations.
