Disney CLO Calls for AI Policies to Protect Creators and Copyrights

Horacio Gutierrez, the senior executive vice president and chief legal officer at the Walt Disney Co., called for policies around Artificial Intelligence that will protect creators and copyright holders, urging the U.S. to act quickly and learn from mistakes of the past.

“ AI threatens to inflict severe harm to American creators resulting from the misuse of their intellectual property rights,” Gutierrez said Tuesday at the University of Miami School of Law during his appearance as part of the Alan S. Becker and Gary A. Poliakoff Preeminent Leaders in Law Speaker Series. “ And we must act now in the fast-moving AI innovation environment. We don’t have time to repeat the mistakes of the past or even to delay in coming to grips with the challenges we face.”
