Google’s Latest AI Tool Effortlessly Removes Watermarks From Images; Internet Says ‘AI Is Screwing Artists’

As if the rampant plagiarism via text-to-text, text-to-images, and text-to-video prompting with AI tools wasn’t any worse; Users on X/Twitter (primarily) sharing how they bypassed copyrights (and stole the rightful revenue of artists) by getting rid of *drum roll* watermarks! That the contentious use case of Gemini 2.0 Flash somehow evaded the developers is insane. Google’s new AI tool not only removes them watermarks but also replaces the same with a tiny Gemini AI logo in the image, which is barely noticeable.

Several users shared their results on the platform, without remorse, bragging about the same as if they achieved insane skill! Luckily, this is not what the internet at large is using the Google Gemini 2.0 Flash for. Some users are using the tool to swap garments by uploading the apparel on the AI. It works with a set of multiple images (for multiple products). Some users have deployed the AI to (re)design their living room and other spaces. It can also generate storybooks, replace objects in a picture, replace the color of the objects in the picture, and much more.

While the general verdict on the interweb is “Google really cooked with this one, the internet is concerned about copyrights and ethics, which now largely lies on the users. One user remarked, “Bro this is illegal.” Another wrote, “Getty Images is probably pissed right now.” “How is this a skill,” asked another user. “RIP NFTs,” reacted one user, while another lamented, “AI is screwing artists.” “Because copyright theft is awesome. Bro how tone deaf could you be?” asked one netizen.
