Hemsby bungalow bid for land at Parkland Holiday Park

Craig Witheridge is seeking permission from Great Yarmouth Borough Council to redevelop land at Parklands Holiday Park in Hemsby.

The proposal would see the construction of 13 bungalows on part of the site known as the Engine Shed.

The development would include three so-called affordable homes.

A document submitted with the application states the existing site has in the past been used as amenity land serving the wider holiday park, but the land is now considered “surplus to requirements”.

The plans are facing two objections from people over concerns that the clearance of the site for development would include the removal of many established trees
including that of a large oak.

One objector said: “One family member in particular has spent his life keeping the
estate beautiful.

“Whilst I accept that things have to change, I find the proposal as being over developed with no regard for green space,” they added.

A borough council conservation officer said the land “seems to be the site of a former engine shed” and that the Old Station House is located to the south.

“Whilst I have not been able to locate anything on the historic maps regarding the old
engine shed, it might be worth consulting with Norfolk Historic Environment Service to see if they require a pre-commencement condition regarding archaeology,” the officer said.

To view and comment on the plans, search for application reference 06/23/0658/O on Great Yarmouth Borough Council’s planning portal.

Consultation on the plans continues until March 14 and a decision is expected by April 30.
