The “old” Model Y is still around and cheaper than ever.
While the new Model Y is now available for order, the prior-generation Y is being discounted to clear inventory. Discounts appear as “price adjustments” (see below) on the listing page.
The ‘old’ Model Y is being discounted.
Current discounted Model Y vs new Model Y price:
- Current RWD Model Y : $41,840 (starting inventory price) before federal tax credit and $34,340 with the credit (before taxes and fees).
- Current AWD Model Y : $44,150 (starting inventory price) before federal tax credit and $36,650 with the credit (before taxes and fees).
- New AWD Launch edition Model Y: $59,990 before federal tax credit and $52,490 with the credit (before taxes and fees). Deliveries begin in March.
There is a wide price gap between discounted prior-generation Model Y and new Model Y because the new Y is only available for order as the fully-loaded All-Wheel Drive Launch edition. But that will change soon when the new version is offered in all trims: Rear-Wheel Drive, base All-Wheel Drive, and Performance. Less expensive versions of the new Model Y are already available to order in Europe starting at about 46,000 Euros (US$48,000) for the rear-wheel drive version to purchase and 570 Euros per month to lease (just shy of $600).
The new Model Y Launch edition comes fully loaded (thus the high price) with standard features:
- Full Self Driving (an $8,000 value, included)
- Tow package (a $3,500 value, included)
- Choice of any wheels (up to $2,000 value, included)
- Choice of any paint color (up to $2,000 value, included)
- Choice of any interior color (up to $1,000 value, included)
