Matty Cash sends three-word message to Aston Villa fans after he’s axed

Aston Villa defender Matty Cash took to social media to celebrate getting “back out there” after returning from injury in their 2-2 Premier League draw with Liverpool on Wednesday (February 19).

The 27-year-old replaced January signing Andres Garcia in the 69th minute as Unai Emery’s side drew with the current Premier League leaders at Villa Park.

Cash had missed Villa’s three previous games across all competitions with a muscle injury he picked up in their 4-2 Champions League win over Celtic at the end of January.

Mohamed Salah opened the scoring for Liverpool in the 29th minute with his 29th goal of the season thanks to a defensive miscommunication between Garcia and Axel Disasi.

Youri Tielemans restored parity in the 38th minute before Ollie Watkins gave the home side the lead in added time of the first half.

Trent Alexander-Arnold scored the equaliser just after the hour-mark, sending Liverpool eight points clear at the top of the table before Arsenal face West Ham on Saturday (February 22).

Matty Cash is glad to be back as Aston Villa struggle to keep up with the pack

Cash has been a key player for Emery so far this season, starting 20 of his 22 games across all competitions, scoring one goal, and providing one assist in his 1638 minutes of action.

Football Insider revealed ahead of the January transfer window that Villa were looking to sell Cash after doubts were raised regarding his ability.

The right-back took to Instagram after the 2-2 draw with Liverpool to celebrate his return from injury, simply saying: “Backkkk out there.”

Emery’s side are now winless in their last five Premier League games, sitting in ninth with 39 points from their 25 games.

Villa face fellow out-of-form side Chelsea on Saturday (February 22) with both clubs in desperate need of a win.
