A total of £500,000 in prize money is up for grabs at the Winmau World Masters 2025. The event will take place from Wednesday, January 29 to Sunday, February 2 at the MK Arena in Milton Keynes.
For years, the darts season opened with the Masters. That tournament first consisted of eight participants, later 16 and then even 24 players. However, the PDC got the chance to adopt the iconic tournament Winmau World Masters, which was under the BDO from 1974 through 2019.

The format at the Winmau World Masters is unique. Although a set format is used, two legs per set must be won instead of the usual three legs in a set format. The top-24 players in the world rankings automatically qualify for the main tournament. The other eight participants will emerge from the preliminary round, which takes place on Wednesday, Jan. 29.
All other Tour Card holders may participate in the preliminaries, as well as representatives of the PDC’s secondary tours and affiliate tours. The preliminaries begin in a pool phase with the winners advancing to the last 64, where they will be joined by the players from spot 25 to 56 in the world rankings. These players will be assured of £750 in prize money. After the group stage, three more matches must be won to reach the main tournament. After each match won in the preliminary round, the prize money increases.
The 32 participants in the main tournament are guaranteed £5,000 in prize money. This amount eventually rises to the top prize of 100,000 pounds for the winner of the new Winmau World Masters.
