The boss of Ryanair says he thinks easyJet could soon cease to exist as an independent airline.
He suggested the company could become a subsidiary of either British Airways or AirFrance by the end of the Labour government.
Michael O’Leary was speaking at a news conference this afternoon before opening the floor to questions.
He was asked if Ryanair, which doesn’t operate out of Heathrow, would battle easyJet for spots at the airport’s newly announced third runway.
“I’m not sure easyJet will still be around as an independent airline when the third runway at Heathrow opens up, if it ever opens up in 2045 or 2050,” he said.
“easyJet at that point will be at that stage be a subsidiary of BA or AirFrance – probably in the lifetime of the current Labour government.”
Sky News has contacted easyJet for a comment.
